Clinical Faculty

What Does Membership as Clinical Faculty in the MSUNER Mean for Teachers?

Teachers in partner districts can apply to the University for appointment as Clinical Faculty members. We seek experienced, highly effective teachers who see themselves as learners as well as teachers, who are eager to serve as role models and mentors for teacher education students, and who value culturally responsive teaching and teaching for critical thinking as central to their work with students.

Once appointed by the Dean of the College of Education and Human Services, Clinical Faculty members may be eligible to serve as cooperating teachers, on-site education mentors, co-facilitators of mini-courses, co-teachers of student teaching seminars, and adjunct faculty for other courses at the University. They are also eligible to apply for MSUNER Grant Opportunities.

Within the first two academic years following their appointment as Clinical Faculty, in order to maintain Clinical Faculty status, members must participate in these three mini-courses: Teaching for Critical Thinking, Culturally Responsive Teaching, and Strategies for Mentoring and Coaching. These mini-courses are offered after school in different partner schools or on campus and are free of charge to school partners. Please refer to the Main Page of this site for current listings of these courses.

Clinical Faculty members also have the opportunity to apply for a Campus-Wide ID and Net ID through the MSUNER. Activating the Net ID will provide Clinical Faculty with access to campus privileges including general parking and a Montclair State University ID card that allows access to Sprague Library and the ADP Center for Teacher Preparation and Learning Technologies.
