SUMMARY:Exploring Issues of Diversity in the Classroom
DESCRIPTION:In this course, we will examine and discuss the schooling 
 experiences of students from diverse socio-economic, linguistic, and c
 ultural backgrounds and the qualities of teachers, teaching, and schoo
 ling that foster their learning. We will critically examine our own as
 sumptions and perceptions about sociocultural identity, and understand
  how these beliefs have shaped our perceptions of ourselves and other 
 people. We will also plan activities that reflect multiple ways of per
 ceiving and interpreting the world and discuss strategies to help teac
 hers develop the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to successfully t
 each children of all backgrounds and experiences (including social, cu
 ltural, racial, disability, sexual orientation, and linguistic diversi
 ties). Suggested Grade Levels: P-12.\n*Fulfills the MSUNER requirement
  for Culturally Responsive Teaching.\n\nThis course meets for two sess
 ions, March 8 and 15, 2010, 4:00 to 7:00 pm. You must attend both sess
