Event Description

This six-hour mini course is geared to teachers and administrators of all grade levels. It will give participants a clear understanding of what formative assessment looks like in the classroom as well as its importance in the overall context of student learning. Participants will:
1. Learn the five key areas of formative assessment.
a. Importance of stating the day’s learning objectives
b. Questioning for understanding
c. Eliciting feedback to monitor and adjust instruction
d. Developing the self-directed learner
e. Cooperative assessments
2. Experience and practice formative assessment techniques
3. Gain an understanding of the philosophical underpinnings of formative assessments
4. Learn the difference between formative and summative assessments

This is mini course meets for two sessions: November 24 and December 15, 2009, 4:00 to 7:00 pm
