TITLE: Teachers As Scholars: Using Productive Classroom Talk to Address Complex Social Phenomena

This two-session course will focus on strategies and techniques for cultivating productive classroom talk that serves as the vehicle for addressing complex social phenomena, such as bullying. Participants will learn how to (1) develop contestable questions around social, political and moral issues (2) engage students empathetically, productively and constructively in inquiry around issues and (3) develop and incorporate pre- and post-discussion activities that enhance the discussions and students' understanding of the issues they engage.
