I'm a social studies teacher in East Orange, NJ. You can connect with me on Facebook or LinkedIn. I also publish a website about civics education, and I would encourage you to click through and check it out.
I've been a teacher in East Orange since 2007. In that time, I've taught U.S. History, World History, and A.P. U.S. Government and Politics. I studied at Rutgers University for my Masters degree, and it was there that I discovered a passion for civics education. I try to incorporate it into my social studies classes as best I can.
Several years ago, I attended the MSUNER Leadership Associates Program. This was a great opportunity to meet and network with educators throughout the region, and I maintain some of those relationships today. I've also completed professional development with the NJ Council for Humanities, National Endowment for the Humanities, and C-SPAN. I spent a summer working at C-SPAN as a Teacher Fellow, and I later spent a year with them as a Senior Fellow.
I'm a local, county, and statewide leader in the NJEA. I'm the Vice President of my local association in East Orange, where I'm chair of the Government Relations Committee and co-chair of the Negotiations Committee. I'm the Secretary of the Essex County Education Association, and I serve on NJEA's Congressional Contact Committee. I work with NJEA part time as a Uniserv Consultant, providing staff support to local associations in Hunterdon and Somerset counties.
