Event Description

The Conscious Classroom - Mindfulness Techniques for Cultivating Awareness
Dates: February 19, 2019
Time: 4:00- 7:00 PM
Instructor: Dena Grushkin
Location: Montclair State University, Business Building- Room: 521

For the past ten years, Dena Grushkin incorporated a Yoga and Mindfulness practice into her classroom. The effects of the practice were transformative with regard to the intellectual achievement and social/emotional development of students and Ms. Grushkin's experience as an educator. Taking her best practices, she created a professional development wellness program that teaches teachers how to infuse a yoga and mindfulness practice into their classroom. The program discusses the effects of stress on the body and the power of Mindfulness Mediation as a tool to manage it. Teachers will enhance their teaching toolkit by learning techniques to manage classroom behavior, increase learning, memory, self-awareness, self-regulation and compassion in their students. Teachers will also have the opportunity for self-reflection with the understanding that mindful educators are more satisfied with their jobs, deliver curriculum with more ease and connect better with their students.
